What are you currently working on? SOCIETY THEORY presents : _transmission. A short film series with an in depth look at culture from the inside out. We have been putting a lot of energy into figuring out ways to address problems in American society through storytelling and honesty.

Craziest moment of the past year: I have the following two: shooting coverage downtown after the Giants one, and the weekend we drove back and forth to LA twice to support of Team Raymond Roker towards his win during the Tastemaker Reality Show shoot.

What are you current working on? We’re current working on a short film series entitled: _transmission that would take what is the culmination of the ideas and progress we made through this past year.  We are also involved in app development and are preparing for a few product and brand launches occurring through the next few quarters.

The loser last night? Can we all agree it was Groupon? Those commercials were so out of line I may never use their service again.

These days we’re all pretty aware of how to get news online. There are so many information streams and so much content being created that you literally can’t even avoid it. It’s a huge mess really. Media mogul, Rupert Murdoch wants to tame this current media blizzard with a simple, elegant iPad app called The Daily. The title says it all. It’s a self-updating, fully interactive, daily publication complete with articles, videos and images that aims to set a new standard for media consumption. Here’s what Mr. Murdoch had to say:

“New times demand new journalism. (It is the) Best of traditional journalism combined with the best of contemporary technology. 360-degree photographs. Images that respond to the touch. The iPad demands that we completely re-imagine our craft.”

I’m sure this is the direction we’re headed in, but I don’t see this app becoming widespread just yet. Why? Most people don’t have iPads. The risk here is that sometimes you release a great product with the best of intentions, just that it’s too soon for the rest of the world. We’ve been rocking newspapers for millennia now. They had them in ancient Rome and China. So yeah, it’s going to take a while to evolve. Still, it takes bold moves to make changes and The Daily could be a powerful spark for this transition in news delivery. We must give it some time.

For the past month now many of us have been teased by the, well, teasers that acclaimed filmmaker Vincent Moon (of Takeaway Show fame) has put out to promote his latest film An Island this month. For the film he teamed up with 8-piece band Efterklang to inhabit a small island off the Danish coast for a 4-day shoot. What resulted is an album-length film, full of collaborative performances with around 200 local musicians and even children. And no Vincent Moon film is complete without incorporating his brilliant ideas on how to film each song. From the teasers you can already tell it must be a stunning film (watch them below)

Beyond the film itself, I’m incredibly excited by Moon’s idea to allow people to host free premieres of the film across the globe, even in their own living room. I was tempted to host one myself, but then I saw Noise Pop Festival will be screening it twice in San Francisco tomorrow night at Fifty24SF Gallery. Still, I might host one in my living room anyway just to have a personal copy! Here are some more screenings happening possibly near you (click here for the full list).

I hope to see more filmmakers take the “host a screening” approach. What a great way to not only to gain lots of viewers, but to give people the option to screen it in their own way. What are you currently working on?

An Elevator to: Space spin-off. Continuing to perform at “The Business” the weekly stand up comedy show I put together with Bucky Sinister, and fellow Elevator: to Spacemen Alex Koll and Sean Keane at the Dark Room in San Francisco’s Mission District Wednesdays at 8pm that only costs 5 dollars that everyone should go to.
